Club meetings
In the 2023/24 season, our meetings will alternate between in-person meetings and Zoom meetings. See our Programme page for further details.
We meet weekly on Monday evenings from September until March, and welcome all standards of photographers. Our meetings start at 19:45, but people tend to gather from 19:30 when the doors open. What happens at the Camera Club? We run print and projected digital image (PDI) competitions throughout the club season on various subjects. Entry into any of these these is purely voluntary. The club also offers talks on various topics of photographic interest, workshops and demonstrations, and a variety of seasonal social events. The Programme page shows the meetings planned for the current season. Members also have the chance to display their best work at our annual camera club exhibition in Lewes town centre. |

What are our meetings like?
First and foremost, you will receive a warm welcome, whether you are a happy snapper, a novice enthusiast, or a seasoned photographer. And whatever the evening, we will usually have a break midway during which you can mingle with others to share experiences and interests, or simply get a drink from the bar.
If the evening is a print competition meeting, after being able to review all of the photos laid out around the room, you will be able to hear a judge’s views as the photos are presented one-by-one for critique. Members enjoy not only the competitive element, but the constructive comments that judges give on everyone's photos that enable members to continuously improve their skills.
Projected Digital Image competitions are much the same although the preview is in the form of a mini-slide show at the start of the evening once the projector is set up.
For some evenings, we have guest speakers who will share their photographic interests, whether it is a journey through some remote and exotic land or a particular genre such as landscape photography or portraiture. Other guest speakers may be invited to provide technical insight into subjects such as colour management, lighting, or Photoshop skills.
And sometimes, it is a members’ evening where anyone can talk about some of their photos and what they mean to them. Yes — even holiday snaps that are technical disasters — it’s the stories that count.
Welcome. Relax, enjoy, and have fun.
